Abstract
1,136,785. Improved couplings for toy vehicles. METTOY CO. Ltd. 30 June, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 29695/66. Heading A6S. A toy tractor and trailer combination adapted to be detachably coupled together comprise a trailer vehicle, of which 6 is a portion, which bears a downwardly projecting stud 7 and has an enlarged head 8 at the lower end of its shank and a tractor vehicle including a chassis 9, supported on wheels 10 and carrying a body 11 with a downwardly and rearwardly sloping ramp 13. On the upper surface 12 of the tractor-vehicle is formed an aperture 14 in which the stud can engage, the aperture 14 comprising a part large enough to admit the head of the stud and a second part extending from the first part (in the direction of the first-mentioned vehicle) wide enough to admit the shank of the stud but narrower than the head. During coupling, the tractor moves backwards and the head 8 engages the ramp and rides up onto the surface 12 while guided by an upstanding U-shaped guide rib IS until it seats into the aperture 14. Then a forward movement of the tractor enables the head 8 to engage between a downwardly projecting retaining ring 16 and a spring 17, the latter thrusting the stud upwards to engage the head within the ring 16.
