Abstract
1,136,423. Heat exchangers. A. JOHNSON & CO. (LONDON) Ltd. 9 May, 1967 [2 June, 1966], No. 24728/66. Heading F4S. [Also in Division B1 The inner surface of a cylindrical heatexchange wall 16 is wiped by rotary scraper means comprising a rotor body 1 formed with radial holes 7 in which are received with a slide fit, pins 18 carrying scraper blade holders 12 fixed to the pins, and scraper blades 15 mounted on the holders. The blades are thrown by centrifugal action (which may be assisted by springs if desired) against the heat-exchange surface as the rotor rotates. The scraper blade units are disposed in rows extending axially one on each side of the rotor as shown; the blades in each row being axially spaced but relatively staggered in the two rows so that the whole heat exchange surface is wiped. The blades may be made of polypropylene in which case they are secured by screws to the holder. Alternatively the blades may be of white metal moulded on to the blade holders and replaced when necessary by melting off and remoulding.
