Abstract
1,136,273. Electrically released switches; automatic circuit breakers. CONTINENTALE ET GARNIER. 11 March, 1966 [19 March, 1965], No. 10785/66. Heading H1N. The operating mechanism of a circuit breaker comprises two links 8, 12 pivoted together at 11, their other ends respectively carrying a pin 6 sliding in a slide 1, which is itself pivotally mounted, and pivoting about a fixed pivot 13 and an operating member 19 one end of which carries a pin 9 sliding in a fixed slide 10 and coupled to pin 6 by a link 7, the slide 10 having a right-angle portion 10a. The pivot 11 is coupled through a link 16 to a bridging contact 17 and is biased to the contacts open position by a torsion spring 14. To close the contacts member 19 is moved downwards by a pushbutton assembly 30, Fig. 5, to bring pin 9 to portion 10a of the slide, a leaf spring 22 driving it into the portion. During this operation, pin 6 moves down slide 1, which is held stationary by a latch 4, to bring links 8, 12, 16 to contacts closed position. Upon excess current flowing either in the circuit of contacts 17, 18 or, alternatively, in a separate circuit, a bi-metal 47 mounted upon an ambient temperature compensating bi-metal 49 moves a tripping member 36 to release the latch 4, thus allowing slide 1 to move clockwise and link 16 upwards to open the contacts, in its extreme position pin 6 strikes member 19 thus dislodging pin 9 from slide portion 10a and member 19 is moved upwards under a spring 41 drawing all the links back to the positions of Fig. 1. The parts of the circuit breaker are assembled between a number of moulded insulating casing parts 25, 26, 27, 28 clamped together by bolts. The tripping member 36 may be manually actuated by a second push-button 31.
