Abstract

1,136,106. Siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers. DOW CORNING CORP. 26 Jan., 1966 [25 Feb., 1965], No. 3515/66. Heading C3T. [Also in Division D1] A liquid organosilicon polymer used in the treatment of organic fibres contains 50-65% by weight of (a) one unit in which m has an average value of 1À8- 2-1 and n has an average value of at least 10 and 35-50% by weight of (b) x[R<SP>11</SP> (OR) a OR<SP>1</SP>] units where x has a value of at least 1, R is an ethylene, propylene or butylene radical, at least 50 mol. per cent of the R groups being ethylene radicals and no more than 30 mol. per cent of the R groups being butylene radicals, R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl radical containing not more than 6 carbon atoms, an acyl radical containing not more than 6 carbon atoms, a radical or a radical in which Q is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical containing not more than 6 carbon atoms free from aliphatic unsaturation or an aryl radical, R<SP>11</SP> is a lower alkylene radical containing at least 3 carbon atoms and a has an average value greater than 4, the (a) and (b) units being connected through a silicon-carbon bond via the R<SP>11</SP> group. The polymer may be applied to the fibres in undiluted form or diluted with water or lower alcohols, ethers or ketones. The organosilicon polymer may be prepared in known manner by the reaction of a liquid dimethyl polysiloxane containing at least one SiH linkage with a polyglycol of, for example, the formula CH 2 =CHCH 2 (OR) a OR<SP>1</SP>, prepared by the reaction of allyl alcohol with a mixture of ethylene oxide and 1,2-propylene oxide, the terminal hydroxyl groups of the polyglycol being reacted with, for example, acetic, anhydride, ethanol, methyl chlorocarbonate or ethylisocyanate, at the end of the reaction.
