Abstract
1,136,015. Selective printing. ING. C. OLIVETTI & C., SOC. PER AZIONI. 12 April, 1966 [10 April, 1965], No. 16082/66. Heading B6F. Special platen rotation; line - spacing. - A paper-feed mechanism for a printing calculating machine comprises a platen 11 which is, before printing occurs, rotated to retract the paper a certain number of lines and then after printing advance it at least one line-space further than it was before: the platen 11 is fixed to a ratchet wheel 46, normally held by pawl 42, which is cyclically reciprocated through a predetermined stroke, the refraction stroke of the pawl 42 rotates the platen until an intercepting lever (87), Fig. 4; with lug (86) holds the ratchet while allowing the pawl 42 to continue. The return stroke of the pawl 42 advances the platen and paper by the full amount to effect the one or more line spaces. The cyclic stroke is derived from a cam 26 rocking a bail 27 and an arm 29 slides a link 31 upwardly The end of a slot 32 in arm 31 engages a pin 33 on a lever 36 which advances the pawl 42. A slide 72 is also rocked by the bail 27 but in the position shown, representing a calculating print cycle, does not result in any action to change the resultant one line-space advance unless a total key is pressed which requires the paper to advance more than one line-space If a total key is pressed a pin 63 is withdrawn from a slide 62 and a further slide 57 pivots a lever 64 and pin 69 counterclockwise. The slide 72 is thereby displaced so that when it is reprocated, it engages a lug 79, rocks a lever 82 clockwise and raises a rod 84 which rotates a sector (52), Fig 4, one space clookwise with respect to the ratchet wheel 46 A locking member (43) engages three notches (49, 50, 51) on the sector (52) which controls the moment when the intercepting lever (87) and lug 36 locks the ratchet wheel 46. A slope (89). In a total taking cycle the retraction rotation is less so that the resultant forward space is more, e.g. two line-spaces. When the paper 10 is torn off, indicating that the next line of printing will be on the-next sheet, no refraction rotation of the platen occurs so that printing appropriately starts some-line-spaces from the leading edge of the sheet. Paper-guides and feed rollers:-An accurate guide plate 96 is displaceable for insertion of the paper displacing a frame 21. This removes a tearing rule (19), Fig. 5, and engages a pin (118) on an arm (117) to rock the guides away from the platen. Feed-rollers (98) are driven by a pinion (99) meshing with a pinion 101 on the platen shaft 11. Adjustment for varying thickness of papers.- The feed rollers and the pinion (99) are mounted on an arm (108) slottedly mounted on the platen shaft 11, see Fig. 6, not shown. Cutting-arrangements.-The tear-off rule 19 is traversely operable by hand, Fig. 2, not shown, and has a pin 22 co-operating with a toothed slot (20) provided on the paper release frame 21 The upper edge of the ruler 19 is provided with a set of projections 24 so that when the paper is pulled forward a set of notches are cut in the edge of the paper. Locking-arrangement.-Reverse line-spacing is prevented if paper is absent.
