Abstract

A roller-and-ring machine comprises a roller 13 which is mounted via ball-bearings 11 on eccentric portions 10 of a drive shaft 4, the roller having conical projections 18 which engage corresponding recesses in a stationary ring 17, after the manner of a planetary gear, when shaft 4 is rotated. Gear wheels 14 on the roller engage fixed gear rings 15 such that roller 13 is rotated in the opposite sense to shaft 4. Ring 17 is semi-cylindrical, see Fig. 2 (not shown), and powdery, particulate, or doughy material fed to the machine via hopper (21) is pushed into recesses (19), Fig. 3 (not shown), and extruded through bores 20 by the roller. Both the roller and ring are exchangeable and the latter be may provided with either heating or cooling jackets.
