Stabilised pharmaceutical preparations of bromelain comprise soft gelatine capsules filled with bromelain, optionally together with one or more active materials, admixed with at least one physiologically compatible liquid substance which is liquid at ambient temperature and/or paraffin which is liquid at ambient temperature and/or, polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight from 200 to 1000. The lipoid substance may be an animal or vegetable oil, fat or a lipid e.g. groundnut, palm seed, sunflower seed, sesame, olive, wheat germ, linseed, poppy, rapeseed, liver or whale oils; or a mixture of triglycerides of saturated fatty acids of vegetable origin with a chain length of 8-12 carbon atoms. To increase its viscosity, the liquid lipoid substance may contain a solid or semi-solid lipoid substance, e.g. a partially or completely hydrogenated oil, a physiologically compatible wax or lecithin. Examples of additional active ingredients are vitamins A, D, E, B 1 , B 2 and B 6 , bis-[2-methyl-3- hydroxy-4-hydroxymethyl-pyridyl-(5)-methyl]- disulphide (pyrithioxin) and anabolic steroids e.g. 1 α,7α-di(acetylthio)-17α-methyltestosterone.
