1,135,420. Sheet forming. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 23 Nov., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 57974/66. Addition to 1,125,972. Heading B5A. Articles, such as constructional panels, having a thickness in the range 0.02-0.20 inches, an impact strength of at least 100 ergs/cm<SP>3</SP>, and a ratio of the square root of surface area to thickness of at least 100, are made by pressforming an oriented sheet of thermo-plastics material at room temperature. The material used is capable of extension beyond its yield point and has an extensibility and orientation such as to allow press-forming but an orientation sufficient to prevent breakage of the sheet during the press-forming. Such a class of material includes vinyl, ethylene, and propylene polymers, polyamides, PTFE, and modified sytrenes but excludes polymethyl methacrylate and unmodified polystyrene.
