Abstract

1,134,522. Cathode-ray tubes. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 28 Jan., 1966 [3 Feb., 1965], No. 3902/66. Addition to 1,103,470. Heading H1D. In a rectangular cathode-ray tube arrangement protected against implosion as described in Specification 1,103,470 by a strap applied around the maximum periphery of the tube and subjected, after assembly on the tube, to elastic deformation with insertion of a filler material between the strap and tube, the strap is formed in four parts connected at the corners with interlocking joints or hinges. Two opposite parts of the strap may be formed with end lugs which interlock in openings in the ends of the other two parts. The parts of the strap, which may initially be straight or bowed inwards, are pulled outwards at their centres during insertion of the filler material so that the strap subsequently applies compressive forces on the tube. The filler material may be applied in fluid form, e.g. hardenable plastics, cements, resins, alloys or granules in a molten media, or pre-shaped filler pieces may be used and may be attached to the tube before application of a deformed strap thereover.
