Abstract
1,134,443. Converting. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 25 Jan., 1966 [26 Jan., 1965], No. 3271/66. Heading H2F. In a converter circuit the moment at which a valve current i 1 falls to zero is detected by a current transformer (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), having its primary in series with the valve, and its secondary connected to an LR circuit. If the current waveform is asymmetrical, and if the transformer saturates at 2 then, with a purely resistive load, the secondary current (shown dashed) would drop to zero, giving a false " valve current zero " indication. To overcome this the inductance (2) is connected in series with the resistance (3) across the transformer secondary winding. If the time constant of the secondary circuit is sufficiently high, then when the transformer saturates the secondary current i 2 is maintained (but decaying exponentially) until the primary current falls at the end of the half-cycle so that correct operation is obtained. A diode may be connected across the secondary winding of the transformer to compensate for error due to magnetizing current (though this small error may be neglected). Zener diodes may shunt the secondary to prevent over-voltages.
