Abstract

1,134,351. Destroying microorganisms using enzymes produced by bacteria. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 12 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966], No. 16726/67. Heading A5E. A method for the destruction of microorganisms comprises treating the microorganisms with a cell-lytic enzyme produced from bacteria of the genus Flavobacterium. The treatment may be carried out in a solution of pH from 7.5 to 9.5, e.g. containing trishydrochloric acid or veronal hydrochloric acid. Optionally egg-white lysozyme or lysozymelike enzymes may be present. The microorganisms may be gram positive and gram negative bacteria, actinomyces, yeasts or fungi. The celllytic enzymes may be produced as described in Specification 1,132,678.
