Abstract

1,134,020. Grinding. " ECS " ENG. CONSTRUCTIONS SWITZERLAND G.m.b.H. 20 May, 1966 [20 May, 1965], No. 22647/66. Heading B3D. Apparatus for simultaneously machining two rotating workpieces 11, 12 by a machine tool having a rotating tool 13, such as a grinding wheel, comprises means for equalizing the distances of the axes of rotation of the workpieces from the axis of rotation of the tool. As shown in Fig. 4, the line connecting the axes of rotation of the workpieces is vertical and a wedge 14 is provided to adjust the support for the workpieces along a sloping base 10 so that a line (7, Fig. 1) from the axis of rotation of the tool and perpendicular to the line between the axes of rotation of the tool intersects the line at its centre. In another embodiment, each workpiece is carried by a separate support (17, 18, Fig. 5), the upper support being adjustable relative to the lower by wedges (16) and both supports being adjustable by wedges (15). In other embodiments, the support for the workpieces is adjustable about a pivot by movement of a wedge or cam. Where separate supports are provided, each may be adjusted by a servomotor or induction headed extensible bars under the control of measuring devices during the grinding process.
