Abstract
1,133,729. Mixing fibres. G. SHAW and C. H. ANDERSON. 20 Dec., 1965 [29 Dec., 1964], No. 53870/65. Heading D1F. Dissimilar types of fibres (e.g. having different colour, size, shape, or chemical composition) are mixed by supporting a bundle of such fibres at one end in a loosely confined and generally vertical position and displacing at least some of the fibres by forces acting at right angles to the axes of the fibres. The product may be used in making a brush having multicoloured bristles. As shown bundles containing dissimilar fibres can be mounted in bins A, B, C made up of collapsible members. The bins are mounted on a table 46 which can be reciprocated simultaneously in the direction of rails 126 and at right angles to this direction, the resulting motion being elliptical. Pins 38 on a base 36 are brought amongst the fibres and held stationary while the bins gyrate thus the fibres are mixed. A reciprocating or other motion of the bins is possible. The bins may be maintained stationary and the mixing pins moved.
