Abstract

1,133,180. Automatic voltage control. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. Sept. 6, 1967 [Sept.26, 1966], No.40633/67. Heading G3R. A constant voltage circuit comprises an electrode 11 adapted to be contacted by a variable number of contact members 10 so as to supply a voltage to a variable number of external circuits, a current source 25 for said electrode, and a voltage regulator 15 which controls the output of the source 25 in dependence upon variations in the voltage on electrode 11 as detected by a device such as a brush 16, whereby the voltage on electrode 11 is maintained constant independently of the number of external circuits to which it supplies a voltage. As shown, the electrode 11 is the contact roller of a data reading machine and the contact members 10 are brushes which contact the roller, and thus transmit data to data storage 12, when sensing perforations 6 in a record card 5 which passes between the brushes 10 and the roller 11. The regulator 15 is rendered active by a device 13 only during the time when a row of sensing positions is being read. The device 13, the regulator 15 and the current source 25 may include transistors, a suitable circuit arrangement being described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown).
