Abstract
1,133,009. Automatic phase control systems. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON - HOTCHKISS BRANDT. 21 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 47369/66. Heading H3A. A system as in Specification 673,957 for synchronizing the phases of two transmitters which are coupled to a common aerial through a hybrid ring, a dummy load being connected to the terminal of the ring opposite the aerial terminal, is characterized in that the phase control loop is interrupted when excessive power is dissipated in the dummy load. This has the effect of reducing large phase errors. For example, if the phase error is 300 degrees reduced to 30 degrees by the A.P.C. loop interruption of the loop will result in a phase error of 300 degrees which is equal to - 60 degrees; when the loop is re-connected the phase error will be reduced to - 6 degrees. The phase discriminator may comprise a second hybrid ring supplied across one diagonal with signals derived from the transmitter outputs and subjected to a 90 degree relative phase shift, the other diagonal being connected through oppositely poled diodes to a variable phase shift network in the path of one of the transmitters.
