Abstract
1,132,749. Linear polyesters. MONSANTO CO. 22 June, 1966 [30 June, 19651, No. 27853/66. Heading C3R. In the manufacture of polyesters by reacting a dicarboxylic acid or ester-forming derivative thereof with a glycol of formula HO(CH 2 ) n OH where n is 2 to 10, there is used as a catalyst a thoriumcontaining compound, e.g. the glycoloxide, acetate, acetylacetonate or the oxide. Many aliphatic and aromatic dicarboxylic acids are mentioned. Examples describe the manufacture of polyethylene terephthalate by reacting free terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol.
