Abstract

1,132,266. Sulphuric acid, nitrosyl sulphuric acid. CHEMIEBAU DR. A. ZIEREN G.m.b.H 26 Jan., 1966 [26 Jan., 1965], No. 3521/66. Heading C1A. H 2 SO 4 is made by a contact process wherein the gases resulting from the contact oxidation are absorbed or condensed in an amount of a nitrogen oxide such that the product is nitrosyl sulphuric acid having a concentration of 5-5000 mg /kg. of H 2 SO 4 . The nitrogen oxide, e.g. NO, can be contained in the SO 2 gases entering the contact process, or produced from nitrogen-hydrogen compounds during the contact oxidation or from HNO 3 added at the absorption or condensation stage. If desired, the H 2 S0 4 produced can be denitrogenated with urea or aminosulphonic acid or decoloured by adding H 2 0 2 .
