Material in trough 1 is pushed leftwards by pushers 8 rigidly carried by reciprocating bar 7. Thus, bar 7 is moved leftwards by fluid cylinder 6 and is moved rightwards by fluid cylinder 5. Bar 7, cylinders 5 and 6 and supporting pieces 13, 14 form a unit which pass through the floor of the trough 1 at points 23 and 24 such that when the bar 7 is in operation the unit is permitted a certain vertical and lateral movement to avoid jamming.
