[Also in Division G2] In a navigational display system, the position of an aircraft is continuously indicated by an aircraft symbol projected on to a screen on to which is also projected a map movable, according to the aircraft flight direction and speed, by means of a navigation computer. The aircraft symbol is initially manually brought into coincidence with the aircraft position on the map, and coincidence is thereafter maintained automatically. The system includes map transparencies, each of which is carried in a frame (Fig. 2). The frames are contained in cavities (81a), (Fig. 13, not shown), of a cylindrical drum magazine 81. A shaft position encoder comprises a drum having a polished internal surface covered by a coded mask which is sensed by a lamp and photo-cell system mounted inside the drum.
