Abstract

1,130,661. Acoustic resistances. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 March, 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 13975/67. Heading H4J. An acoustic resistance comprises a body of sintered metal particles held by a supporting member of resilient synthetic resin. Use of such resilient supporting member ensures that the body of sintered particles is not deformed when pressing it into the supporting member. In one embodiment a ring (2), Fig. 1 (not shown), of resilient synthetic resin, is secured to a steel ring (1) and has apertures in which a body of sintered metal particles (3) is inserted. Alternatively a metal tube having a flange (5), Fig. 2 (not shown), contains a tube (6) of resilient synthetic resin in which are sintered metal particles (7). A metal tube (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), has, at intervals along its length, units each consisting of a resilient synthetic tube (11) containing sintered metal particles (12). Such tube (10) can be mounted in a microphone. Alternatively, the acoustic resistance may be used in an earphone or loud-speaker.
