Abstract
1,130,172. Railway vehicle undercarriages; cars continuous forming trains. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 5 Nov., 1965, No. 46998/65. Heading B7L. An articulated structure for interconnecting and supporting the adjacent ends of two railway car bodies 2, 3, Fig. 2, having underframes and centre sills 7, 8, comprises, a bolster 13 of a six-wheeled truck 15, which bolster has a centre bearing 12 and a pivot pin socket 19; a primary end casting 4 securable to the sill 7 and having a cavity 35, Fig. 3, with an upper wall 14 and a lower wall 9 provided with an annular bearing boss 11 rotatably supported in the bearing 12; a secondary end casting 6 securable to the sill 8 and having a head 23 supported for universal pivotal movement on the casting 4, the head 23 and the boss 11 having openings 16, 24 in vertical alignment with the socket 19; and a pivot pin 18 extending downwardly through the openings 16, 24 and having its lower end journalled in the socket 19. The head and boss have complementary abutting convex and concave surfaces 22, 21 and the top wall 14 has an aperture 17 to receive the pin 18 which is prevented from upward movement by a cover-plate 26. The casting 4 has lateral arms 27, Fig. 3, provided with side bearings 28 engageable with side bearings 29 on the bolster 13. Secondary side bearings are also provided at the ends of the arms 27 to engage side bearings on the bottom of the underframe of the body 3 as described with reference to Figs. 1 and 4 (not shown).
