Abstract

1,215,810. Articulated railway cars. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 6 Dec., 1967, No. 55588/67. Heading B7L. In an articulated railway car 10, Figs. 1 and 2, car sections 12, 14 are connected together by a connector comprising a part 26 secured to the section 14 and having a cavity 30 to telescopingly receive a part 28 secured to the section 12, the parts being connected by a vertical pin 38, and bearing members 64, each having a cylindrical surface 68 and a part-spherical surface 66 are urged by springs 74 into engagement with partspherical surfaces 62 on the part 28 and with the pin 38, whereby universal pivotal movement is provided between the connector parts 26, 28. The outer end of the part 28 engages a stop element 54 in the part 26. The part 28 rests on a bearing member 76 having a partspherical surface 78 engaging a seat 52 on the part 26. The part 26 also has a boss 32 engaging in a recess 34 in a bolster 22 of a central bogie of the car 10. Another embodiment discloses wings on the connector parts for limiting the pivotal movements of the parts.
