Abstract

1,129,454. Metal complex dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 March, 1966 [9 April, 1965], No. 15189/65. Heading C4P. The invention comprises chromium monoazo complex dyes which in the form of the free acid have the general formula wherein A<SP>1</SP> and A<SP>11</SP> each independently represent a phenylene or naphthylene radical; B<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>11</SP> each independently represent residues of coupling components which couple ortho or vicinal to D<SP>1</SP> and D<SP>11</SP> respectively; Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>11</SP> which are ortho to the azo groups are-O-or -COO-; D<SP>1</SP> and D<SP>11</SP> are -0-, -NH-, -N(C 1 -C 4 alkyl)- or -N-phenyl-; X is an acryloylamino or #-chloropropionylamino group; provided that A<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>1</SP> together and A<SP>11</SP> and B<SP>11</SP> together each contain a single sulphonic acid group, and A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>11</SP>, B<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>11</SP> are optionally further substituted by chlorine or bromine or a nitro, cyano, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy or acylamino group. Preferred complexes may be obtained from dyes of the 1-hydroxy-2-(mono- or di-nitro-2<SP>1</SP>-hydroxybenzene-azo-)-3-sulpho-6 or 7-acryloylaminonaphthalene series. They are prepared by heating an appropriate 1 : 1 chromium dye complex with an approprite unmetallized dye in water which may contain a water-miscible organic liquid, e.g. ethanol, ethylene glycol, or #-ethoxyethanol or by acylation of appropriate amino group containing 2 : 1 dye : chromium complexes with an acid halide or anhydride of acrylic acid or #-chloropropionic acid. The dyestuffs are used for dyeing wool, silk, polyamides, polyurethanes and polyacrylonitrile which may be modified, leather and regenerated cellulose in all shades.
