Abstract

1,129,186. Transistor time delay circuits; automatic exchange equipment. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 6 June, 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 26002/66. Headings H3T and H4K. A timing circuit comprises a capacitor which, when a pair of contacts is closed, discharges towards a value at which a transistor conducts whereby an electromagnetic relay is operated by the transistor only if the contacts remain closed for longer than a predetermined period. The circuit is suitable for detecting pauses in pulse trains signalling digit values of telephone numbers. When switching device 1 is open, transistor 2 is not conducting and capacitor 8 charges through resistor 6 to the difference between the supply voltage and the voltage across a Zener diode 12. The switching device closes between input pulses and the capacitor then commences to discharge through resistor 10 and the switching device. If the latter remains closed for long enough, i.e. between pulse trains but not between pulses of a train, the capacitor charges sufficiently to render diode 9 and transistor 2 conductive so that relay 15 is operated. Device 1 may be a relay contact, a transistor, a thyristor or a valve.
