Abstract

1,129,023. Separation of acidic gases. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 26 June, 1967 [17 Aug., 1966], No. 36829/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions B1 and C5] In a process for at least partially separating acidic gases and COS from natural gas, refinery gas, town gas and gases made by partial combustion processes, in which a basic amine, preferably an alkanolamine, having a pK b at 25‹ C. of from 3 to 14, is employed as absorbent, at least one dialkyl sulphoxide is contained in the absorbent, alkyl groups having 1 to 4 C atoms being preferred. Operating pressures in the range 7 to 70 Kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> abs. and temperatures of from 20‹ to 80‹ C. are mentioned. Up to 30% b.w. water may be included in the absorbent, which may be regenerated by conventional means. If the gases to be treated contain gasoline-type hydrocarbons, the absorbent may be flashed before passing to a regeneration column. The process may be used for the absorption of carbonyl sulphide, hydrogen sulphide or carbon dioxide.
