Abstract

1,128,345. Treating oil pollution. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 2 Sept., 1966 [22 Sept., 1965]. No. 40406/65. Heading C1C. Oils and/or tars at or near the surface of waters are treated by deposition on the mass of contaminents of a hydrophobic solid. The solid is a particulate material such as kaolin, diatomaceous silica, pulverized fuel ash, stone dust or lime, which has been treated to render it hydrophobic with an organic or organo silicon hydrophobing agent e.g. paraffin waxes, magnesium stearates, fatty amines, hydrolysable organo-silanes and polysiloxanes. The mass when treated floats and may be recovered.
