Abstract

1,128,145. Gas filter. K. L. WHITAKER. 10 July, 1967 [10 Aug., 1966], No. 35731/66. Heading B1T. Air filtering elements 13 are cleaned by reverse flow pulses of compressed air delivered through nozzles 42 which are located within the elements so that the flow through the end outlets 12 is not reversed during cleaning. Nozzles may be frusto-conical, ample tubes, perforate tubes or bell-shaped with possible openings in top and side wall (Figs. 4 to 7, not shown). Other constructions, not illustrated, are perforate cylindrical boxes, or arrays of nozzle pipes extending from respective tubes 41. Nozzles are connected in groups for sequential cleaning of corresponding elements, to which single or multiple pulses are delivered by timer-controlled, solenoid-operated valves 43 (Fig. 2, not shown). Filtering flow is inwards through elements 13 and is effected by upstream and/or downstream fans. Dust discharge valve 17 may .be replaced by a bin or polyethylene bag to collect dust. The element 13 comprises a welded mesh frame with an upper spigot and gasket and a lower closure, urged upwards against plate 11 by a clamping screw beaming on a horizontal support 35 (Fig. 3, not shown). A filtering sleeve of wool or polyester felt, nylon or cotton is secured round the frame by hose clips. The housing 10 has an access door for replacing elements and is divided by partitions between groups of elements.
