Sliding-jaw wrenches.-A wrench of the kind in which the sliding jaw is adjusted by means of an externally screwed sleeve on the shank of the fixed jaw engaging an internally screwed tubular extension of the sliding jaw is provided with means for giving a quick adjustment to the sliding jaw. The shank 5 of the fixed jaw 1 is provided with an interrupted screw-thread 6 engaged by threads 7 in a sleeve 12 rotatable in an outer sleeve 10 connected to a screwed part 8 engaging the screwed extension 9 of the movable jaw 4. The sleeve 10 and part 8 are connected by a pin-and-slot connexion 11 permitting a limited relative longitudinal movement so as to grip the sleeve 12 between the end of the part 8 and a shoulder 14 on the sleeve 10, and cause it to rotate with the sleeve 10 to engage or disengage it from the threads 6. The threads 7 are interrupted by solid parts 15, Fig. 2, so that the sleeve 12 has only a limited rotary movement, and the threads 6 and those of the part 8 are of the same pitch. In use, the sleeves 10, 12 are turned together until the threads 6, 7 are disconnected and the sleeves and jaw 4 slid along the shank until the jaws grip the nut. The sleeves are then turned in the opposite direction to re-engage the threads 6, 7 and the sleeve 10 is then turned by itself to tighten the jaw 4 on to the nut. In a modification, the sleeve 10 and part 8 are integrally connected and the sleeve 12 pressed by a spring against the lower end of the part 8.
