Abstract

1,127,794. Measuring power press loading electrically. RUBERY, OWEN & CO. Ltd. Feb.20, 1967 [Feb.25, 1966], No.8335/66. Heading G1N. Load in a power press is detected by strain gauge resistors 10, 11 connected in a bridge circuit energized at 2, 000 C.P.S. from an oscillator 13 fed from a stabilized power supply 21. The bridge imbalance voltage indicative of the load is amplified at 15, fed to a phase sensitive demodulator 16 and via a D.C. amplifier 17 to a trigger unit 18 which controls a series of indicator lamps 19. The lamps are successively energized as the load increases, the number of lamps lighted indicating the load as a percentage of a datum load. The trigger unit also controls a cut-out unit 20 which stops the press in the event of serious overload. A servosystem is provided which is operative under no-load conditions only, to return a null indicating voltmeter to zero in the event of drift due to temperature variations, zero shift of the D.C. amplifier &c., so that a true indication of the press loading is given by the lamps.
