Abstract
1,127,428. Phenyl-imidazo- and -thiazolotropylium compounds. SANKYO CO. Ltd. 7 Sept., 1966 [7 Sept., 1965], No. 40024/66. Heading C2C. The invention comprises a compound of the formula wherein R 1 is a phenyl group which may be substituted by an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, halogen, cyano or nitro; R 2 is a sulphur atom or the group R 4 being a phenyl group which may have as substituents an alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, halogen, cyano or nitro, an aralkyl group which may be substituted in the aryl portion by an alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a halogen, cyano or nitro or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and X is an acid radical and a process for the preparation thereof wherein a compound of the formula is subjected to interaction with an acid to accomplish ring-formation. The examples describe the preparation of 1-p-tolyl- and 1-methyl- 2-phenylimidazotropylium chlorides and 2- phenylthiazolotropylium chloride by treating the corresponding tropone-imines and troponethione with hydrochloric acid. The fluoroborates and chloroplatinates of the products are mentioned.
