Abstract

1,127,335. Hydrocarbon conversion catalyst. MOBIL OIL CORP. 4 May, 1967 [4 May, 1966], No. 20817/67. Heading C5E. A hydrocarbon conversion process comprises contacting a hydrocarbon charge under catalytic conversion conditions with a crystalline aluminosilicate of uniform pore size having an n-hexane sorption capacity of less than 1À6 wt. per cent at 20 mm. vapour pressure and 25‹ C. and an effective pore diameter less than the smallest cross-sectional dimension of the charge molecules. The zeolite may be mordenite, chabazite, sodalite, lazurite or zeolite A, preferably of pore size less than 5 Š and containing divalent and/or trivalent metal cations and less than 10 wt. per cent alkali metal, optionally admixed with a porous matrix. The examples describe the cracking of n-hexane and a mid-continent gas oil at 700-130‹ F. and a LHSV of 0À2 to 20. Olefins may be isomerized at 200-900‹ F. and hydrocracking and reforming processes may be carried out with the catalyst at 700-1300‹ F. The catalyst may also be used for alkylation, dealkylation, diproporptionation and polymerization but no details are given.
