Abstract
1,127,115. Semi-conductor switching circuits. ARENCO A.B. 16 March, 1966 [26 May, 1965], No. 11445/66. Heading H3T. [Also in Division B5] In a circuit for stabilizing the energy content of pulses against variation in supply voltage, the duration of pulses is made inversely dependent of the supply voltage by a circuit comprising variable resistor 13, capacitor 12 and Zener diode 11. To initiate each pulse, contacts 4 and 17 are closed enabling capacitor 12 to charge from the alternating current supply 1, after rectification at 2, at a rate depending on the setting of the variable resistor 13. Thyristor 20 is triggered when contacts 4, 17 are closed, initiating an alternating current pulse in load 5. When the capacitor 12 is charged to the break down voltage of Zener diode 11, thyristor 10 becomes triggered, short-circuiting the gate circuit of thyristor 20 and terminating the alternating current pulse in load 5. A further circuit comprising components 31, 27, 19, 24 having a different charging time constant may be provided so as to arrange that the current in load 5 during part of the pulse (when both capacitors 12, 28 are charging) is different from that during the remainder of the pulse. The circuit is reset by closing contacts 4, 18, capacitors 12, 28 discharging via diodes 14, 30. In Fig. 3 (not shown) thyristors 19, 20 are replaced by electromagnetic relays the contacts of which control the presence and absence of two variable resistors (38, 39) connected in a phase-controlling trigger-module arranged to control the angle of fire of a pair of thyristors connected back-toback in series with the load. The invention is applicable to control of current in a pair of plastics welding jaws so that a high current is initially provided, becoming reduced after a pre-determined time.
