A calculating machine dial wheel or similar sign-bearing element is made from two or more components of differently coloured thermoplastic material, the protruding signs being subsequently overlapped to the height of the signs by a layer of thermoplastic material of another colour. Projections 29 fitting into recesses 39, and the laterally extending signs 21, 31 themselves, serve to locate the components in the mould while the overlapping material is added.
