Abstract

1,126,466. Thermal regenerators. JAMES HOWDEN & CO. Ltd. 8 Sept., 1965 [21 Sept., 1964; 8 June, 1965], Nos. 38493/64 and 24136/65. Heading F4K. [Also in Division G1] In a rotary thermal regenerator having a drum-shaped matrix of metallic, heat-transfer material, means are provided to detect excessive temperatures which may occur in the matrix. The detecting means comprises a probe (16) extending adjacent the matrix end face and containing a plurality of thermocouples or resistance thermometers which operate visual and audible alarms if the temperature of the mass at any particular radius exceeds a predetermined value. Such a temperature may, for example, be caused by ignition of combustible material deposited on the matrix from the flue gases. The invention is said to be applicable to regenerators of either the rotary matrix or stationary matrix type.
