A front, car seat includes a backrest with a rigid frame, padding secured to the full width of the upper rear edge of the frame, and cushioning material covering at least the face for supporting the user's back, the padding being harder than the cushioning material. The padding and cushioning may comprise different density forms of polyurethane foam. The padding may be integrally moulded on the frame or may comprise a preformed slab with a longitudinal slit which receives the top of the frame. The cushioning is subsequently moulded over the pad and frame.
