Abstract

1,126,318. Detergent alkylate. MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 17 April, 1967 [18 April, 1966], No. 17517/67. Heading C5E. Detergent alkylate is produced by alkylating benzene with a straight-chain olefin or a mixture of predominantly straight-chain olefins (preferably C 8-18 ) at 10-70‹ C. in the presence of HF, the molar ratio of HF to olefin(s) being in the range 1 : 1-7 : 1. The process results in higher proportions of terminal phenylalkanes than processes using higher HF : olefin ratio, said proportion increasing as the HF : olefin ratio decreases.
