Abstract

1,125,952. Making gear wheels; rolling. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. 25 Feb., 1966 [3 March, 1965], No. 9005/65. Headings B3A and B3M. A gear wheel is produced by roll-sizing the teeth on a toothed blank which has been formed by pressing metal powders in a die and sintering. The rolling is performed by three rotating toothed dies which surround the blank and whose axes are skewed relative to the blank axis. The skew angle is compensated for by an equal and opposite helix angle on the teeth of the dies, and has the effect of drawing the blank through the dies. The metal powders are packed into a die by means of a punch which is screwed under pressure into the die without touching the walls of the die.
