Abstract

1,125,811. Hydrogenation catalysts. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 14 Dec.. 1966 [28 Jan., 1966], No. 3939/66. Heading B1E. Ni, Co or Cu on Kieselguhr catalysts are made by contacting calcined Kieselguhr containing less than 1 % of alkali soluble SiO 2' with an aqueous solution of a Ni, Co or Cu salt in the presence of ammonium on alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate, isolating the solid from liquid and reducing the solid with hydrogen. The catalysts preferably have a surface area of 25 to 35 m<SP>2</SP>/gm Examples describe the precipitation of Ni(OH) 2 . NiCO 3 from Ni(NO 3 ) 2 and NaHCO 3 . Analogous preparations of Co and Cu catalysts are also described. Specification 394,576 is referred to.
