Abstract

[Also in Division B2] A combined salt and pepper dispenser comprises a pepper mill for dispensing pepper at one end joined to a salt container for dispensing salt at the other end, the salt container being arranged for refilling at its inner end after removal from the pepper dispenser. As shown, the pepper mill and salt container comprise respectively the machined wooden lower and upper parts 1, 2. These parts have secured thereto moulded junction pieces 3, 4 which are screwed together. The salt container has a central aperture containing a bung 6 which can be removed for insertion of the salt. The salt container may contain loose salt in which case the top merely has a small aperture 7 for pouring, or a number of holes for shaking, for it may contain rock salt in which case the top is fitted with a salt mill 8. The pepper mill comprises mill mechanism 9 having a shaft 11 of square section which is keyed into a square opening 13 in the junction piece 3 and is held in position by a nut 14. The junction piece 3 has two arcuate openings on either side of the nut for insertion of the peppercorns. Rotation of the junction piece 3 rotates the shaft 11 and mill 9 to grind the pepper, the fineness of the ground pepper being varied by means of the nut 14.
