Novel 6,12 - diaryldibenzo[b,f][1,5] - diazocine derivatives of the formula where X and Y each represent hydrogen or one or more substituents selected from halogen, CF 3 , C 1-4 alkyl, OH, C 1-4 alkoxy or C 1-4 acyloxy, at least one of X and Y being halogen, CF 3 , alkoxy, hydroxy or acyloxy, are made by heating a 2-aminobenzophenone bearing at least one halogen, CF 3 , C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy substituent, in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g. an aryl sulphonic acid. The hydroxy derivatives may be formed by heating an alkoxy compound with AlCl 3 , e.g. in benzene, and thereafter adding HCl, and the acyloxy derivatives may be formed by reacting the hydroxy compounds with an acid anhydride. The dibenzodiazocines may be hydrogenated to give a secondary amino compound which may be reacted with fluosilicic acid to form a fluosilicate. Pharmaceutical preparations having estrogenio activity comprise the above compounds and a carrier, and may be mixed with feed to accelerate weight gains in animals, e.g. chickens or cattle or may be used for sterilization, e.g. of starlings, pigeons, coyotes, rats or mice.
