Abstract

1,124,513. Moulding chip-board. E. SCHNITZLER. 28 Feb., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965; 11 Jan., 1966], No. 8778/66. Heading B5A. In a method of making chip-board in which a chip-binder mixture is first pre-pressed at a low temperature and then finally pressed at a high temperature a single press is used, heat insulating inserts being provided between the press-plates and the working material during the pre-compression step and being removed during the final compression step. In the embodiment shown in the Figure a chip blank is formed upon a lower insulating plate 6 and is forwarded into the heated press 2, 3 together with an upper insulating plate 5, which plate is reciprocable along rails 4. The press is then closed to effect a cold compression of the blank reopened to allow removal of the plates 5 and 6 and finally reclosed to completely press and cure the blank.
