Abstract
1,124,358. Aircraft control surfaces. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd. 7 Dec., 1966 [22 Dec., 1965], No. 54369/65. Heading B7G. An aeroplane wing 1 has at least one flap 3, 4, 5 having alternately inflatable means 7, 8 to raise and lower the flap(s). The flap(s) 3, 4, 5 may (each) be hinged to the wing along a lower edge and attached along an upper edge by a sensibly inextensible flexible member 13 (e.g. of rubberized fabric), which may form a smooth continuation of the upper aerofoil surface when the flap(s) is/are lowered. The flap 5 may be raised or lowered by one of the pair of inflatable means 7, 8 drawing the member 13 through the aperture 17 in the flap, the member 13 being anchored to the relatively movable parts 4, 5 by strips 21, 15. The means 7, 8 (e.g. bags) may be inflated and deflated by the supply pipes 11, 12 being connected via a four-way valve to a source of air pressure within the aircraft, and to atmosphere.
