Abstract

112,431. Leggett, H. Dec. 11, 1916, [Convention date]. Grinding interfitting parts together.-A portable power - driven apparatus for grinding a valve on to its seat comprises an electric motor 5 in a casing 1, provided with a handle 4 and a neck 12, and a spindle 11 supported in the neck and carrying a bit 14 for engaging the valve C. The upper end of the spindle carries a cam-lever 16, the opposite sides of which are engaged by crank-pins on toothed wheels 17, 18; these wheels gear with each other and the wheel 17 gears with the pinion 8 on the spindle of the electric motor; they are mounted to rotate on a floating disk 25, the centre of the wheel 18 being a little farther out than that of the wheel 17, and to the floating disk is secured, by a pin-and-slot connexion 30, a weighted disk 29. The action of the gearing is to set up an oscillating motion of the cam lever and shaft with an angular advance at the end of each complete oscillation. In a modification, the wheel 18 is dispensed with and the pin on the wheel 17 engages a cam-slot in the lever 16.
