Abstract

1,124,283. Grinding. FLEXWHEEL Ltd. 27 Aug., 1965 [29 Sept., 1964], No. 39535/64. Heading B3D. [Also in Division F2] A contact wheel for supporting an abrading belt has a radially pleated tyre composed of four annular axially spaced layers 10a, 10b, 11a and 11b formed from two resilient sheets 10, 11 gripped between axially extending intercalated teeth 14 of two hub discs 13, 12. The resilient sheets 10, 11 may be of a natural or synthetic elastomer impregnated or covered with a fluid impermeable natural or synthetic elastomer, or of woven nylon fabric impregnated with neoprene. The sheets 10, 11 are initially wound as a cylinder and a wire passed circumferentially therearound and tightened to decrease the diameter at mid-length of the cylinder, to form a U-cross-section annular tyre, with the four layers 10a, 10b, 11a and 11b. The hub disc 13 has tubular extensions 16 passing through and peened over to grip the disc 12 and several wheels may be arranged on a single spindle with the tubular extensions 16 aiding cooling.
