Abstract

A pesticidal film-forming composition comprises a partially hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol resin, together with a compatible resin which is soluble or miscible in water or an aqueous alcohol, in a mixture of an organic solvent and water, and containing an insecticidal, bactericidal and/or fungicidal substance. The compatible resin may be an etherified trimethylol melamine resin, a partially condensed urea formaldelhyde resin, an ethylene-urea condensate resin or a polyvinyl acetate modified by being rendered water-soluble or dispersible by treatment with organic or inorganic bases. The insecticidal substance may be a pyrethrin or substituted pyrethrin analogue, a -naphthyl-N-methyl-carbamate or O,O - dimethyl - 5 - (1,2 - dicarbethoxyethyl) - phosphorodithioate. The bactericidal and/or fungicidal substance may be tri-n-butyl tin oxide, a benzalkonium chloride, an alkyl dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium cyclohexylsulphamate, or N-trichloromethyl-mercapto - 4 - cyclohexene - 1,2 - dicarboximide. Synergists may be used, e.g. piperonyl butoxide. In examples are also used: amine alginate resin, iso-propyl alcohol, methylated spirits, 1-methyl - 2 - (3,4 - methylenedioxyphenyl) ethyl octyl sulphide and [2-(2-butoxyethoxy) ethoxy] - 4,5 - methylenedioxy - 2 - propyl toluene.ALSO:Fibrous material is coated with a pesticidal film forming composition which comprises a partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol resin, together with a compatible resin which is soluble or miscible in water or an aqueous alcohol, in a mixture of an organic solvent and water, and containing an insecticidal, bactericidal and/or fungicidal substance. In the Examples carton board is coated.ALSO:A pesticidal film forming composition comprises a partially hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol resin, together with a compatible resin which is soluble or miscible in water or an aqueous alcohol, in a mixture of an organic solvent and water, and containing an insectical, bactericidal and/or fungicidal substance.
