Abstract

Composition suitable for use in the treatment of textiles comprise polydimethyl siloxane, a copolymer of dimethyl siloxane with diphenyl siloxane, octadecylmethyl siloxane, chlorophenyl methyl siloxane, b - phenylpropyl (methyl) siloxane or phenylmethyl siloxane, polyethyl methyl siloxane, polymethylvinyl siloxane or poly (3,3,3-trifluoropropyl) methyl siloxane in admixture with methyl hydrogen polysiloxane, dibutyl tin dilaurate, vinyltriacetoxy silane, ethylpolysilicate, a urea-formaldehyde odour reducing agent, acetic acid, tetrabutyltitanate, dibutyl tin di-2-ethylhexoate, dibutyl tin diacetate and zinc octoate, various combinations and proportions of the constituents being given in the examples. The compositions may be in the form of solutions in perchloroethylene or an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent or of aqueous emulsions.ALSO:Durable creases are imparted to a garment by (a) applying to a fabric comprising fibres made from a thermoplastic organic polymer a curable organosiloxane in an amount of at least 0.5% by weight calculated on the weight of the fabric, (b) forming the fabric into a garment e.g. a pair of trousers, and (c) arranging those areas of the garment in which it is desired to form creases in creases and subjecting the garment to sufficient heat and pressure whilst so arranged so as to set the thermoplastic fibres and cure the siloxane to a flexible resin, the siloxane being the only permanent crease-forming resin applied to the fabric. The fabric may be made from polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer, polyvinylidenenitrile, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethyl cellulose or cellulose acetate fibres alone or in admixture with cotton, wool, silk or linen. Di-substituted organopolysiloxanes in which the substituents are ethyl, methyl, propyl, octadecyl, vinyl, allyl, hexenyl, cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexenyl, methylcyclopentyl, phenyl, xenyl, tolyl, naphthyl, benzyl, b -phenylethyl, b -phenyl propyl, chloromethyl, gamma chloropropyl, chlorophenyl, bromophenyl, chloroxenyl, bromocyclohexyl, a ,a ,a ,-trifluorotolyl, or radicals of the formula RCH2 CH2-, in which R is a perfluoroalkyl radical may be used. Siloxane crosslinking materials which aid in the cure of the siloxane including methyl hydrogen siloxane, alkyl silicates e.g. ethylsilicate, acyloxysilanes, e.g. methyltriacetoxy silane and oxime silanes, e.g. C2H3Si[ON=C(CH3)2]3 may be used. Pressing may be effected at a temperature of 150 DEG -205 DEG C and at a pressure of 700-1050 g/sq.cm. The garment may be given a press-cure of 15 seconds at 150 DEG -205 DEG C and 700-1050 g/sq.cm. and a post cure, e.g. in an oven, for 4-15 minutes at 150 DEG -205 DEG C. The organo siloxane may be applied as a solution in for example perchloroethylene or an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, or as an aqueous emulsion by dipping, spraying or padding, and the treating composition may also contain a urea-formaldehyde odour reducing agent an anchoring agent, e.g. vinylacetoxysilane, acetic acid, peroxide catalysts, dibutyl tin dilaurate, tetrabutyl titanate, dibutyl tin di-2-ethyl hexoate, dibutyl tin diacetate and zinc octoate.
