Abstract

1,123,191. Supply and converting systems for consumption apparatus; control of motors. A. M. KEMP and T. N. UJEJSKI. 1 Feb., 1966 [29 Jan., 1965], No. 4071/65. Headings H2F, H2H and H2J. A system for controlling the current through a load fed from an A.C. supply S comprises a bridge of rectifier elements D1-D4 across one diagonal of which is connected a silicon controlled rectifier SCR and a phase shifting network R 1 , R 2 , R V , C 2 ; the network controlling the firing point of the rectifier SCR by way of a transistor T, and this firing point being variable by the variable resistor R V . A capacitor C 3 is provided to ensure a current pulse sufficient to fire the SCR. In other embodiments the bridge D 1 -D 4 may be omitted and a pair of reverse connected rectifiers used one or both of which may be of the controlled type. When both are of the controlled type the trigger pulses may be varied oppositely to one another. As shown the load is supplied with alternating current. The load may however be placed in series with the SCR of Fig. 1, thus it will be supplied with direct current. The load may be a blanket, motor, fan, heater, electric drill or a lighting system.
