An edge-reinforced sheet material consists of a base sheet material of low tearing strength, e.g. transparent drawing paper or photo print paper, having as edge-reinforcement a 2-20 mm. wide strip of polyethylene terephthalate film having a thickness of 12-40 Á and which is coated with polyethylene, the strip having been heat sealed to the base sheet with the polyethylene coating in contact with the edge of the base sheet. The strip may be applied to one side only of the base sheet to lie flush with the edge thereof. Alternatively, application of the reinforcement may be made on both sides, either by applying a single folded strip or by applying two strips one on each side. The polyethylene coating may have a thickness of 10-150 Á. The strip is sealed to the edge of the base sheet at a temperature of 135-180‹ C. and a pressure between 1 and 5 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>
