Abstract

1,123,091. Hydromechanical transmissions. SOC. ANON. FRANCAISE DU FERODO. 14 Jan., 1966 [14 Jan., 1965], No. 1946/66. Heading F2D. In a hydromechanioal transmission a reserve supply chamber 52 is provided in the end wall of the converter and look-up clutch casing 17 and adjacent the hydraulic supply pump 42, the gear-box casing 13 being sealed off by a plate 71, which may form the end wall of casing 13, and a sealing ring 44 engaging the intermediate shaft 11. The chamber 52 is formed by an arcuate recess 52, the upper portion of which serves as a settling tank and is connected by a pipe 53 to a make-up tank (54), Fig; 2 (not shown), located above the casing 17. The supply of liquid to the torque converter 15 and lock-up clutch 16 is controlled by a piston valve (55), Fig. 2 (not shown), operated by an electromagnet 62 under the influence of switches (64), (65), the former of which is closed whenever the gear-lever (14) is gripped and opened when the lever is released, while the latter is closed when the gear is in neutral and opened when a gear has been selected, and thus engages or disengages the clutch 16.
