Abstract

1,121,363. Ornamental article. S. MATSUSHITA and M. SHIBATA. 19 Aug., 1965 [24 Aug., 1964], No. 35635/65. Heading B6G. [Also in Division F4] An ornamental space cooling device comprises a base member on which is mounted a hollow body containing brine, refrigerating means being provided in the base member for continuously cooling the brine and thereby maintaining the surface of the hollow body at a low temperature in relation to the surrounding atmosphere. In Fig. 1, a hollow body 3 made of plastics or metal is mounted on base member 2 in which is housed compressor 1, condenser 4 and the expansion valve 6 of an expansion/ compression refrigeration system, a cooling coil 5 in the hollow body 3 being connected into the refrigeration system between expansion valve 6 and compressor 1. The hollow body 3 is filled with brine. In another embodiment (Fig. 2 not shown) the cooling coil is mounted in a brine tank in the base member, and apertures are provided which connect the brine tank to the interior of the hollow body so that brine can circulate through the tank and hollow body. A pump is provided to assist circulation of the brine. The hollow body may be opaque or transparent and may be coloured. The base member may be provided with an upstanding surrounding flange defining a channel to receive condensed water. Decorative articles such as artificial flowers can be mounted on the base around the hollow body.
